Why I wrote this book
Raksha Bandhan is celebrated around August every year and celebrates the special bond between brothers and sisters. Each year when Raksha Bandhan comes around I find myself having to call my mum because I always forget the order in which it’s done. So to make things easier for myself and other parents out there I created “It’s That Time of Year! Raksha Bandhan is Here! It’s a simple and engaging way to learn not only the steps the significance behind them too. And after reading this book my son will grow up confident in his knowledge of the festival and the rituals to be done.
What was important to me about this book was to show the celebration has evolved, what was once only done between brother and sister like figures has now expanded to included sisters tying rakhris on sisters and brother tying rakhris on brothers and the family pets are involved too. This was important for me to highlight as I grew up in a family of all girls and although we did not tie it on each other growing up, I hope that little steps like this can show the next generation that equality exists between all.
